I’ve been a bit of a flibbertigibbet this past week – went out of town for a few days, coming down with a cold right before so I’ve not had energy to do much of anything! But there have been some cool things on the web that I’ve found, and thought I could share them with you here.
This is from one of the blogs I follow – and I just LOVE this piece of his work! I’m always taken a bit with squares and circles and layers of work, and I thought this piece of Ken’s from his blog Art by Ken was just FABULOUS – what do you think?
Seeing this piece reminded me of some work I’d tried to do in my art quilting – using modified log cabin quilt blocks in all sorts of colors to illustrate darks and lights, shine and shadow; in essence, using simple shapes and letting the colors do the work. Back in 2006 I did some fabric dyeing and put together a quilt that I was really pleased with and in fact it made it as an entry to the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilt show. I’d forgotten about it but seeing Ken’s painting reminded me!
I also follow some favorite quilters who execute art pieces that I can only dream about! Like some of my favorites from Janet Steadman and this wonderful piece by Janet Kurjan. And then there are the art pieces by Mondrian and Kandinsky – not necessarily squares in squares, but really interesting pieces that include geometric patterns.
I’ve still got a number of Kandinsky black and white images saved from years ago that I was going to use as a basis for a quilt, but then that seemed SO hard – maybe now I’ll have to put something together in mixed media? Too many ideas running through my head and not enough time!
Maybe some of these musings have helped you to put together some new ideas this week? Sometimes it’s enough to just take a pause to look at work that is out there and just enjoy the colors and the movement and ideas that someone has put out in the universe for us to share!
Enjoy!

The quilt IS beautiful – not surprising that it did so well – and I love what you said about seeing what is around us – I also really loved your post below about your art and drawing and how far you’ve come – I agree, I would have never thought that I would be drawing if you asked me even a few years ago – but I guess it found us. Yay, xoxo
Thanks for stopping by! I agree that it is nice to have yardsticks from which to measure our progress – your lovely ladies are SO nice, yet so different from some of your collage pages which I still adore! Life is an adventure!
